Politeknik Lhokseumawe held an English Olympic For Senior High School on November 20 to 22, 2015. Some branches of science which was contested are Debate, Speech, Story Telling, and News Casting.
SMAN Modal Bangsa Arun participate in all branches of science that are contested. In the event which took the theme "Be brave to talk, embrace the world", SMAN Modal Bangsa Arun won several achievement, including 3rd Winner Debate, 1st Winner Speech, and 2nd Winner News Casting.
Among the activities of school examinations, we interviewed one of the winner, that is Raisatul Geubrina, the first winner of speech competition by the title "The Tactics To Improve Our Skills For Globalization Era".

Nice to see you too. I’m very well, thank you.
Thank you for giving me this oppurtunity to conduct an interview. First of all, congratulations on the achievement as the winner of English speech contest in the “English Olympic For Senior High School†competition. Can you tell us reasons about the background of the theme chosen?
Well, as we all now, nowadays our world is in globalization era. And the globalization does not always brings some benefits for us. The fact, if we aren’t strong enough to filter the effect of globalization, our local identity will vanish from this world. So, that’s why i choose this background to share to everyone about how to improve our skills to face any kinds of changes & comptetitions.
Raisa, how do you comprehend the era of globalization in student’s perspective?
Globalization is the process of transformation of local phenomena into global phenomena. Because of globalization, we are able to access any kind of information easily. There is no difficulty to communicate and there is no barrier to interact with other people from all over the world. So i thinkx it is a golden ways that should be used as best as possible, especially to develop our creativity in education.
Some say that the growth of information - which is one component of globalization - was not accompanied by our readiness, be it spiritual, emotional, or intellectual. What do you say?
I think so if we take this matter seriously. For example, if our country wants to survive in this globalization era, we must be smart! We should take all of the positive effect but not the negative ones. We need to adopt and learn high technology from advanced country in order to develop our country. On the contrary, we must not imitate the bad behaviour fro other countries like free sex or drugs abuse.
What sort of things students can do in the face of globalization so that it can be beneficial, both in the context of learning and proceed to become a better person?
What should we do in order to face the globalization era, right? Here is, I have some tactics for that problem. The first one is, build up and strengthen good characters based on the religion. If we are Moslem, the guide of our life is Islam.
Secondly, we must muster the technology in order to develop our country.
Third, always be ready to face any kinds of change & competition by upgrading and preparing our skills. But, the most important thing that is all parents have to respect their children. We always see how the moral of youth is became deminished, and without deminishing my respect to all parents who give all their effort to raise their children, but the fact is the decreasing moral problems were started from home. The parents have no time anymore to introduced their children about wisdom, faith, religion, manners, and character, even personality. They are too busy with their job until forgot that the first lesson should be learned from home. Moreover, they try to subtitue the time they can’t spend with their children with luxuriuous facility, without they realize it will couse materialims moral.
Do you think the era of globalization can bring a good influence for education,Âparticularly in the school environment, or vice versa, even bringing a bad one?
Yes, because the effect of globalization is like two side of coins which is never ever be separated. Sometimes we find disintegration and find many troubles in many sectors and factors. So that, we are as young generation has reponsibility to make this condition that always peacefull and joyfull, and we must be united because we have a slogan Bhinneka Tunggal Ika (The Unity in Diversity).
What role can be done by the school, to improve the quality of students that are better prepared to face globalization?
It is better if student are given deep religious knowledge, so that they have good character. Then school can provide facilities and infrastructures that can support for student’s creativity, but that can’t be separated from the teacher’s control that are needed in this case.
